Soundtrack Geek Returns!

The truth is I didn't prepare for what happened Saturday 12th of February. I was living the easy life and I always knew Soundtrack Geek would be around forever. In hindsight, I see my mistakes, but from every mistake comes opportunity.

I didn't even got the chance to say goodbye. All my posts as well as the great contributors were all gone, like someone waved a magic wand and wished it away. It was fate perhaps, and it was unavoidable.

After a brief sulking period, something woke inside of me. I couldn't let it die, not my great site. I will just re-design it from the ground up, all in 1 week! As crazy as that idea was, that's exactly what I did. I started to use all my coding skills and learned a few tricks to get the NEW Soundtrack Geek up and running.

The result is what you see before you.

The rumors were flying around the internet. What had happened? No one knew, except those lucky few who caught my Twitter, Facebook or Soundtrack Fans messages. My story is that the site was abducted by aliens, only to be upgraded (or downgraded) and sent back in it's new form. Inside the body of Soundtrack Geek walks many hours of hard work, sweat and tears. It might feel alien to most of you but at least it's alive and well.

Don't worry, it's still in beta, or maybe even alpha stage at this point. I call it Soundtrack Geek Zero, because I start at zero. I just hope that you'll enjoy the new design and most importantly the content.

Speaking of content, I have written 3 new reviews: Rango, The Eagle and Battle: Los Angeles that you can enjoy as part of the new site. Also if you check the soundtrack review section, you'll notice it feels like an empty wasteland at the moment. I'm in the process of putting our old reviews back in. It will take time.

By the way, we still accept reviews and features. Just send it to reviews@soundtrackgeek.com as usual. You can contact me by using the contact page in the menu. I can't promise an answer right away, but you WILL get an answer.

What features will be added? A search feature definitely. Possibly an RSS feed if I can figure out the technicalities. What features would you like to see on Soundtrack Geek?

Please feel free to add your comments below about the re-design, of what happened, whatever you like really. After all, Soundtrack Geek is YOUR place for film scores, TV scores, game scores and everything-else scores.

This design is FANTASTIC. It's the BEST around of all the film music sites I visit right now.

Great work! :D

@Timothy Thanks Tim, The re-design was on the planning stage for at least a year, but nothing was done, even on paper. I was finally forced to do something and I decided 1 week was enough to do it so here is the results. Glad to be back!

What a great new design; fresh, lean, visual, it really pops. That you did it all in a week, beggars belief. Glad to have you back!

@Justin

Thanks for the feedback. I think you may have something there. Organizational options I'd like to add are by Score, Composer, Genre, Year, Type and rating.

Currently there are no user rating like the old site, but I'd like to implement it at some point.

As for tagging each individual track, I think that is best left to the individual who is listening. In my experience, opinion differ on this every time.

If you have any more suggestions, feel free to add them.

The new site looks great, even if the circumstances around building a new site are not the best. You asked for features we'd like to see in the site? I would like to see additional organization options.

Current when looking at reviews, you can browse by letter. It would be great if you could also browse by composer, by score type (movie, tv, miniseries, videogame, etc), genre (horror, adventure, dramatic, etc), ranking (both reviewer and reader average). In short, I'm a big fan of categorical browsing, it makes it so much easier to find what you're looking for.

Another nice feature would be assigning tags to individual tracks. For example, adventurous, intense, sad, moody. I don't know if it would be really useful, but it might be nice when wanting certain types of music.

@Oneill5491

To keep it short: My host pulled the plug because it was using too much resources apparently. I guess it was popular :)

Can't keep a good thing locked away so I decided to freshen the place up. Glad to have you back!

So what happened? Hard drive crash or something?

Anyway, glad you've decided to resurrect it with a brand new look. Keep up the great work!

Congatulations!
The wait is over. Now we have the new Soundtrack Geek. Great that it isn't a blog anymore. If I can help you with converting review or something else, please let it me know.

The design is pretty good although I think we need another background design. Good idea to make new Geek Scores but I think I prefer the older ones.

However, the new Soundtrack Geek definitely is going to be more amazing than before.

As I told you, my upcoming reviews are there soon.

All the best

Leonard
