Age Of Heroes Soundtrack Review: This is a review of the film score Age of Heroes by Michael Richard Plowman.

"What it is, is a decent war score to what looks like a good war film."

Age Of Heroes is a film that is based on the true story of the formation of Ian Fleming's 30 Commando Unit, a precursor for the elite forces in the UK, and stars Sean Bean, Danny Dyer, Izabella Miko and James D'arcy. The story is told during World War 2 and the score composed by Michael Richard Plowman is touted as a heroic homage to the brave men of that commando unit.

British composer Michael Richard Plowman has been composing music for 30 years. He has composed over 150 scores in total including "Hunt To Kill", "George of the Jungle", A Dangerous Man" and "Splinter Cell".

So Age of Heroes is your typical war movie featuring a bunch of heroics and hopefully a bit of betrayal.

The score starts in heroic fashion with the cues 'Age of Heroes' and 'A New Hope'. Michael has done a good job creating a good theme for this film. It all sounds a bit like great war themes of the past while 'A New Hope' takes it further. After listening to it quite a few times, I feel it's a bit too sweet yet I still enjoy it quite a bit.

It is a mix between dramatic and action cues that drives this score. 'Battle of Dunkirk' is an action track that perhaps tries a bit too hard. It sounds good, the tempo is spot on, but it lacks a punch. It doesn't make me go "wow" unfortunately while still being good action material.

'Heroes' is a bit of a fun track that sounds a bit like a march. For some reason it reminds me a bit of "Chicken Run", but of course it's not. It is one of the most thematical cues on the score and I'm sure you'll enjoy it like I did.

Finally there's the Age of Heroes Suite which is a 4 minute recap of everything that's fun with this score.

Conclusion

What it is, is a decent war score to what looks like a good war film. Michael Richard Plowman has created a couple of good themes that remind me of older war films and series and has shown great promise for the future. I wouldn't say this score is boring, but it seriously lacks that little extra to really wow me. Writing for war films is very demanding and Michael did a good job overall, but nothing more. If you enjoy war scores with a little bit of heroism, this might be for you.
