Final Destination 5 Soundtrack Review: This is a review of the film score Final Destination 5 by Brian Tyler.

"I can recommend this score for horror enthusiasts, but it's not going to find a broad audience."

Final Destination has come to it's fifth installment and I am amazed that they have managed to milk the concept this far. It must be because of the cool death scenes. Death has a plan and some kids manage to escape certain death, but they have to die so freak accidents happens to those who try. Final Destination 1, 2 and 3 were scored by Shirley Walker while Final Destination 4 and 5 is scored by Brian Tyler

It's weird, you think you want something, but then you get it and it's not what you wanted at all. That's my experience with Final Destination 5 by Brian Tyler. I remember in my review of Final Destination 4 by the same composer that I enjoyed it purely as a homage to the great Shirley Walker who composed the first 3 films. I also expressed that I would like Brian Tyler to add more of him into the project. He has done that with Final Destination 5, but the end result isn't what I expected unfortunately.

'Main Title' is a good example of what could have been, because this quality track is the only standout track that I could find. You have tracks like 'Fates Bridge' that mixes Walker's main theme and Tyler's nack for action scoring. Mostly however, the cues are background material and I am saying this because I had hoped for a lot more.

Conclusion

I can recommend this score for horror enthusiasts, but it's not going to find a broad audience. It is just slightly above average for me, which is a shame because I had built up a lot of anticipation for this one considering last year's effort.
