Gone Soundtrack Review: This is a review of the film score Gone by David Buckley.
"This score isn't for everyone, but there's a place for mood-based scores such as this."
Gone is a new thriller from director Heitor Dhalia starring Amanda Seyfried, Jennifer Carpenter and Wes Bentley. A serial killer kidnapped the sister of Amanda Seyfried's character Jill two years ago and now he has returned. The hunt is on and the trailer seems interesting I have to say. Heitor Dhalia who has worked with composer Antonio Pinto recently chose David Buckley to do the score.

Gone seems to be an interesting thriller. I was dying to know what David Buckley could do with it and what it would sound like. He has been collaborating with Harry Gregson-Williams on The Town and before that he composed From Paris With Love. The most impressive score I have heard from him is The Forbidden Kingdom which was quite fun. Gone is completely different than the three films mentioned and so needs a different mood and mood you will get, loads of it.
Gone is on the surface a flat and uninteresting score if you just happen to listen to it casually. If you give it more time and attention I think you will find it quite interesting. There are nuances and sounds in each cue that will jump at you. It's so subtle that you might miss it and I already said it's a mood-based score so don't expect grand orchestral music but rather an ambient textural electronic score. Subtlety breaks a bit with action cues 'Jill Runs For Her Life' and 'Alameda Car Pursuit'.
Conclusion
This score isn't for everyone, but there's a place for mood-based scores such as this. It will never win any awards or even seem like a contender, but it serves it's purpose and I have to say I enjoyed it in parts. I am happy with this score, and truthfully I didn't expect a masterpiece. Listen to the sample posted below and see if you like it too.
