Hawk Soundtrack Review: This is a review of the film score Hawk by Stuart Hancock.

"If you love choral, orchestral epic scores, then you can't go far wrong with this"

You have probably never heard of Hawk and you might not even see it. The movie, directed by MJ McMahon is only 38 minutes long and shot in North Wales. It is loosely based on Welsh folklore and some people even call it a fantasy epic. Sounds intriguing to me, and when Moviescore Media released the score to it by Stuart Hancock I knew I had to have it.

Track List

1. Flight of the Hawk*****
2. The Little Hunter****
3. Rowan and Taid****
4. Yn Annwfyn y Diwyth (The Peace of the Underworld)*****
5. Journey Into the Underworld****
6. The Burial****
7. Blood Must be Repaid****
8. A Hunter on my Own*****

10. Wrth War Wrth Wrys (The Savage Dawn)*****
11. Revelations****

13. The Rising Soul (End Credits)*****

The last time I heard Stuart Hancock was the two scores released of Underground and Bodyguard: A New Beginning. I wasn't too impressed, but I knew that if he just got the right movie to score, he would shine.

Hawk is that movie.

Something Special

From the first track 'Flight of the Hawk' you know you are in for something special. The PR sheet describes the score as orchestral, choral and epic and that is exactly what the first cue is.

In fact, it's the impressive choral work that stands out for me, like in the cue 'Yn Annwfyn y Diwuth (The Peace of the Underworld)' we hear a choir and a single beautiful voice built upon a great theme. You see, the tracks sounds great even without the choral ensemble, but that is what push it to the top.

How about this for a title, 'Wrth War Wrth Wrys (The Savage Dawn', impresses me with a action-filled beginning but as it continues with a mood building track that ends up with a creepy choir ensemble finish that's truly massive. This is great fantasy music!

It all ends beautifully with the cue 'The Rising Soul (End Credits)' as it dawns on me that I have had a wonderful listening experience with Stuart Hancock and the score Hawk.

Conclusion

If you love choral, orchestral epic scores, then you can't go far wrong with this. It is one of those you might easily miss, but even if you never see the movie, this score is a must have. It truly shows what Stuart Hancock is capable of and goes to show that sometimes we have to look outside of Hollywood for the best music.
