Scream 4 Soundtrack Review: This is a review of the film score Scream 4 by Marco Beltrami.
"It wants to be full of action and chills and it is"
It's Scream time again ladies and gentlemen. It has been 11 years since Scream 3 but Wes Craven has assembled the old crew for one more time. Ghostface is back yet again and Sid returns. Dewey and that pesky reporter is also present and of course Marco Beltrami is back doing his score duties once more.

It feels good to have Scream back and even better to have two Beltrami releases in one month. I recently re-listened to the previous three Scream scores by Beltrami and I found lots of good memories there. The first one was good, the second one was even better, but the third one was a little disappointing.
Explosive
I can immediately tell you that Scream 4 didn't disappoint. There is an explosive level of really violent cues that are fantastic horror/action material. Cues like 'Everything Under Control' works wonders and even more funny when you think of the title. It's truly Scream and an awesome display of horror music from Beltrami. Of course Dewey gets his moment in the 29 second long 'Dewey in the Morning'. 29 seconds!? Come on! I love the music of Dewey. Surely we could have put a longer sequence on here. The Woodsboro/Scream theme is featured as well at the end of 'Cheating on My Diet / Woodsboro 2010'.
I also liked the fact that there is a time for reflection as well. In the cue 'When You Let Someone Go', it starts with the Scream sound we know so well from the main theme. Then it turns into a great melodic cue with female vocals. Beltrami with his recent ÒSoul SurferÓ has once and for all proven he can do great thematic material and he shows it again here.
One of the best cues are 'Your Ingenue Days are Over' which is a mix of a more quiet theme and a horror/action theme that even feature an almost similar ÒvoiceÓ sound that Friday The 13th was famous for.
Conclusion
Possibly the best score in the Scream series, because it is so incredibly forceful. It wants to be full of action and chills and it is. It's not the scariest of scores, but Scream has never been about the moody scares, but rather the surprise scare and crazy fight/chase scenes. It succeeds and I had a blast listening to this from start to finish.
CUE RATING: 84.7
