Short and Decent

Submarine is a short but decent score. It's very easy to listen to and should please most people, except those who crave originality or something extreme. The string and piano based themes are minimalistic and subtle and feels kind of sad. Take 'Oliver Tate's Funeral' for example. A nice little string theme that has an air of sadness over it, which pretty much tells the story of the whole score.

This score doesn't try to challenge you in any way. You can pick this up, listen to it and forget you ever did, but as pure background music it works surprisingly well.

There are a couple of uplifting cues on here like 'Lloyd Tate's Mysteries of the Deep' that could have taken this score to another level entirely, but it missed the boat on that one.

Conclusion

This score will probably frustrate you as there doesn't seem to be much substance, but rather a collection of easy string and piano tunes. The main theme is played over and over again throughout and if you are not a big fan of that, this will be hard to swallow. It is not for everyone, but I did get some enjoyment out of this as a background score, something I can forget about but it's still there when I need it.
