Ah, imagine sailing across the world in one of the greatest sailing ships of today listening to great film music along the way. For me and most of you, it will probably just be another dream never to get fulfilled, but dreaming is fun isn't it!

David James Nielsen who has worked on a number of movies like "Reclaiming The Blade" and TV series like "Star Trek: Enterprise" get a chance to show what he is capable of with this release from Moviescore Media.

Seafaring Music

It is some tall task to write the exact music I would associate with the great seas and wonderful looking sailing ships, but as far as efforts go, this is not bad.

The theme of Tall Ships, called 'Tall Ships: Privateer Lynx (Theme)' is the one they used on the trailer and it has such an impact when you see the ship, the hard workers and the sea. It has a bit of a heroic stint to it that I like, but it doesn't go over the top. It's kind of a dreaming track and the flute is a prominent figure in it's creation.

A lot of the tracks sound a bit like the same track to be fair, but it has it's purpose. In 'She's a Fast Ship' you can hear what it sounds like with a bit of hard sailing. You can practically hear the waves splashing against the ship as it goes faster and faster.

Conclusion

There are many great moments in this score, and although I would want more complex and larger orchestra pieces for a seafaring score, this is a great and easy score to listen to and appreciate. Nielsen does this type of score well and has somewhat successfully created a score that goes well with the Privateer Lynx.
