The Ward Soundtrack Review: This is a review of the film score The Ward by Mark Kilian.
"It's quite a scary and entertaining score that Mark Kilian has come up with."
The Ward is John Carpenter's is John Carpenter's latest offering to the world of horror. A woman is put into a mental institution and weird things start to happen. In that place, people die and the ones who do come back to haunt you. John Carpenter is not doing the music for this film, but Mark Kilian is.

The film wasn't too excititng and the score barely registers apart from the main theme. On CD however, the score stands out in a positive way for the most part. From the haunting 'Opening Titles' to the scary and exciting 'Kidnapped' to the beautiful 'Alice Is Back'.
I can't remember Mark Kilian ever scoring a horror film (or at least now something I have heard before. If "The Ward" is anything to go by, there's definitely something to build on. He gets a lot of things right, but also some things wrong. What I like about this score the most is the tension. It feels like I am on edge all the time when listening to it. What I didn't like is that there are too few great tracks like 'Opening Titles' or 'End Credits'.
Conclusion
It's quite a scary and entertaining score that Mark Kilian has come up with, at least it's scarier than the film itself. A lot of good tracks, but there's too few great tracks on here which is a bit of a letdown, but I wasn't disappointed with this, but rather positively surprised.
CUE RATING: 76.3
