How are the scores calculated and what does it mean?

Big Pharma is a simulation game developed by Twice Circled and published by Positech Games where one builds a drug factory. The game was released on 27 August 2015. The game revolves around processing imported raw materials into medications for sale: each ingredient has a set of potential benefits and side-effects, each of which is active at a certain range of concentrations. The player creates a production line, predominantly using machinery which can either increase or decrease the concentration of an ingredient. Ingredients can also be upgraded or mixed by putting them through certain combinations of processes, yielding new and more valuable cures. The game have several difficulty levels, a machine tech tree, exploration “tech” tree and several AI opponents. The score is composed by Mark Allsworth.

Drugs! Luckily I don’t use more than the occasional pain killer, but my real drug is music. They don’t have a game for that, but they do have literally thousands of scores to listen to so I keep my addiction in check. This game looks interesting. Resource management used to be my thing when I actually had time to play games. These days I just listen to the music and that’s enough for me. The score opens with ‘Let’s Make Medicine’ a very upbeat opening cue. I see blue skies, the occasional cloud and in the distance I see these drug factories spewing out all kinds of things, but the music, the music is already affecting my mood. It’s the only known drug to do that to me, and it works. It’s literally impossible not to smile after listening to that opening track. The theme is so catchy as well. Drugs on the dance floor has known to work, but that’s dangerous business. In ‘Electro Elixir’, there’s a sweet EDM inspired cue to be found and I find myself tapping my foot and that’s as far as I go. Watching me dance is not a pretty sight.

This score is yet another one in the pile of proof that the music in games is so important. With catchy music like this it’s hard not to get carried away, and I am every single time. Also the music is so quick and addictive that it helps me move my mouse and click the keys on the keyboard faster to do what needs to be done. This is great music for any occasion that you just need to write something because it’s awesome to try to type in sync with the percussion tracks. Impossible? Not with this music. It reminds me of a better more catchy version of the various Sims soundtrack. This is the best kind of drug, guaranteed to make you feel better!
