Soundtrack Review: Brother’s Keeper (2012)
Brother’s Keeper Soundtrack Review: This is a review of the film score Brother’s Keeper by Bill Brown.
“Brown is channeling Thomas Newman heavily with this score and it’s clear as day too, there’s no point in hiding that fact.”
Brother’s Keeper is a drama from directors T.J. Amato and Josh Mills. It’s a film about vengeance and what happens when a powerful family alters the life of two brothers, so much that revenge is on the cards, however forgiveness could well be the answer to their problems. The film stars Michael Rooker, Ray Wise and Travis Tritt. The score is composed by Bill Brown.

Bill Brown, who used to score a lot of games has really put his name out there in the film and TV realm in recent years. The last film score I heard of him was “The Devil’s Tomb” and to be blunt, it wasn’t exactly the greatest score ever made. Brother’s Keeper is a drama film that has a release date in 2013 apparently so why release the score now? Whatever the reason, it is film music and that’s what I love so I am happy to see this little gem released.
Brown is channeling Thomas Newman heavily with this score and it’s clear as day too, there’s no point in hiding that fact. Luckily for you and me, it’s the good parts of Thomas Newman we get to hear. Specially in cues like ‘Prayers’, ‘Got Potential’, ‘I’m Ready’ and ‘Redemption’ we get to hear first class scoring from Bill brown with some brillian buildups and music. The rest of the score is pretty good too, it’s just that most of the cues are good, but not great.
Conclusion
This was an unexpected surprise. Not only wasn’t I expecting a relase of this score, but it’s also great to listen to. A truly hidden gem if you will, Brother’s Keeper is such a good score and will be on my playlist for quite some time.
