The hype on this score is rather ridiculous. Trent Reznor, yeah you know who that is, is writing the main theme for the game and suddenly it feels like it’s the event of the year. Well it isn’t, not to me. To be fair, the main theme is decent, and one of the better cues on the score, but it didn’t live up to the “hype”. Jack Wall however, I expect great things from as always, however I feel he under delivers on this score, specially the first half. It gets better in the second half though.

The problem I have with this score as a whole is that it feels too generic. There’s not much that doesn’t just feel like a skippable cue and that’s a huge disappointment to me. There are some really great cues though like ‘Afganistan 2025′ which is a very tense and frantic action cue. ‘Sniper On The 110′ has an awesome sound to it and you can immediately see the scene in your mind. ‘Adrenaline’ is the same and like the cue title says, it’s a kick from start to finish.

Conclusion

This score is far from perfect. Half of it feels like a generic score that doesn’t do anything for me and I expect a lot more from Jack Wall. It manages to save itself due to some decent cues in the second half in particular, but I expected a lot more.

Loving all the game soundtrack reviews but to be fair Call of Duty doesnt exactly have great soundtracks. Not since Modern Warfare 2 when Hans Zimmer had some input.

By the way an idea for the site would maybe to have a critic’s choice monthly edition for games as well as movies? Just an idea…

Yep, would love that. The problem is that there aren’t enough game score reviews to create a list. I’m having trouble even finding 3 reviews of a single game score. A very sad state of affairs.

        • Calahoon

Aye tis true while games companies are concerning themselves more and more with proper soundtracks not many are reviewed as its more about the gameplay. One day im thinking that will change

Well Call Of Duty 3 by Joel Goldsmith is pretty good. And also Modern Warfare 3 by Brian Tyler. My personal opinion of course.

Never a fan of MW3 both in terms of soundtrack and game itself. A poor sequel to MW2

Tyler’s MW 3 is by far the best of its trilogy. Thereby I will say that Jack Wall’s BO2 is quite a live-up to that in terms of both electrifying orchestra and electronics – with some Latin & more modern approach.
My favorite tracks are “Savimbi’s Pride”, “Future Wars”, “Afganistan 2025″ and “War Machine”.

    Wheres nr. 26?

    • http://soundtrackgeek.com/ Jørn Tillnes

Nr. 26 is by Mozart, so it’s not a part of the review, unless Mozart came back to life and wrote new original music for the game that is :)

      • Blubber

        :)

        100/100 for the Mozart Song.

Definitely! Can’t go wrong with Mozart :)
