How are the scores calculated and what does it mean?

Coeur De Pirate is French for “pirate heart” and the person behind it all is Canadian composer Beatrice Martin. She got the job of scoring one of the most beautiful games in 2014, Ubisoft’s Child Of Light. It looks stunning and it sound amazing, at least according to the hype. Sometimes the hype is validated and this is one of those times. Mostly it plays on simplicity and great themes, usually with piano and strings, but the score is quite versatile. ‘Jupiter’s Lightning’ for example is a somewhat epic action cue and just as it’s more quiet counterparts it is truly great.

There’s a lot of people that compare both game and score with Journey, and I can certainly see that. Both the game and score is different, but they have something in common, it’s beautiful, both visually and aurally. It’s a feast for both eyes and ears! There aren’t too many scores that focus on themes these days, so it’s more than welcome. I wish more scores were like this. I hope that you also will enjoy one of the best video game scores of 2014.
