John Dies At The End Soundtrack Review: This is a review of the film score John Dies At The End by Brian Tyler.
John Dies At The End is a seriously weird ass movie, it’s twisted, but I have to admit it was quite fun as well. I never really heard the score while I was watching it which is weird because I always listen to the score when watching films. This could mean that the score is minimalistic and not so loud, but it’s actually quite the opposite when you hear it on album.
The score feels a bit like a modern spaghetti western at times with cues like ‘Along The Blurry Road’, but it’s a weird mix. The opening cue ‘John Dies At The End’ is a good opener, but it’s too generic to actually give hints to what this score is about. Tyler mixes it up with reverse sounds and heavy clangs with ‘Soy Sauce’, then goes a bit spacey with ‘Tweaker Lullaby’.
Like I said, this is a weird mix, and I can’t fully appreciate it, but then again, the movie was completely weird and surrealistic and I can definitely see why Brian Tyler chose to create the score this way. It makes total sense to me. On album it doesn’t shines as much as I’d hoped, but it has it’s moments.
GEEK SCORE: 68.7
