How are the scores calculated and what does it mean?

Romantic comedy Laggies directed by Lynn Shelton and starring Keira Knightley, Chloe Grace Moretz and Sam Rockwell seems nice enough. A woman an a life-crisis seeks to stay away from the world for a week or forever and ends up in someone’s house. That someone has a dad and romance ensues. The score is composed by Benjamin Gibbard. One thing I noticed right away is how short the score is. I was thinking “Hey! 21 cues!” and quickly realised the score is only 17 minutes. So great flow is out of the question, but what about the music?

The music is actually quite nice. The main theme ‘Main Titles’ is really good and there are bits here and there throughout the score that is really great like ‘Post Reuinion’ and ‘Meg’s Parents’ House’. This score is a bit pop music inspired, but I like that. It makes for a very comfortable and nice listen throughout even though it is annoying with the short cues. Just as I am enjoying some music it ends way before it’s time. It’s charming though. The music is minimalistic and it’s mostly guitar based. The atmosphere is chill and the music is relaxing.

I wasn’t expecting to find highlights here, but I did and the score as a whole is very charming. Perfect for a nice evening with a warm cocoa sitting inside the house watching the busy streets outside.

1. Main Titles
2. Post Reunion
5. Meg’s Parents House
