People Like Us Soundtrack Review: This is a review of the film score People Like Us by A.R. Rahman.

“I liked this score, not because it’s varied, but sounds really nice.”

People Like Us is a drama movie directed by Alex Kurtzman and starring Chris Pine, Elizabeth Banks and Michelle Pfeiffer. A Man is tasked with delivering $150,000 of his deceased father’s fortune to a sister he has never met. Complications arise because he can’t tell her who he is and it’s tearing him up inside. The score is composed by A.R. Rahman.

Whenever A.R. Rahman does a western film he usually always delivers. He was nominated for an Oscar recently with “127 Hours” and he is naturally a very gifted and respected person in the film scoring community. You could say that “People Like Us” is your very typical drama movie and the score is a typical drama movie score. It’s very different from “127 Hours” because it has more varied music. You have some ambient cues like ‘Frankie’s Burning Desire’ and then you have a more upbeat and fast paced track in ‘Following Frankie’.

Rahman shows that he can do simple and beautiful like the cue ‘Beat The Living’ where he uses a guitar to play a great theme while some laid back synth underscoring goes on in the background. There’s some soothing vocals and then it goes on to become a more comical track with whistling. Just one of many examples of the variations in the score.

Conclusion

I liked this score, not because it’s varied, but sounds really nice. A very good drama score that doesn’t try to be anything else. Refreshing, no?. A.R. Rahman always get things right when he does western films and this is no exception. This is a laid back and nice score to listen to this summer.
