The Place Beyond The Pines Soundtrack Review: This is a review of the film score The Place Beyond The Pines by Mike Patton.
Mike Patton is a breath of fresh air in film music some would say and they would be right of course. I don’t think there are any composers who are as “special” as Mike Patton is in composing music. His scores seems to redefine what film music should be with every score. There’s just one problem. I don’t like it. It’s true, I haven’t found a single Mike Patton score I really enjoyed and The Place Beyond The Pines is no different.
It starts off with the pretentious ‘Schenectady’ which is not bad at all. I quite like the vocals and the granditude of it all. Then it goes back into Mike Patton land and that’s a place I don’t want to live. Every cue feels like it belongs in a modern art museum, with sounds representing something which I don’t quite understand. So maybe I don’t understand his music, but I know a lot of people who does, so this score is for you.
GEEK SCORE: 53.8
